| Shania Learns French | |
Even though Shania grew up in Canada, a bilingual country, Shania is just now attenpting to learn french to a conversational level. As a fellow Canadian who was taught french in school, I can say its not easy. Anyone who knows more than one language, at least to follow a conversational level has my respect, it isnt easy. CountryStars.com reported the news and quotes Shania as saying: "I am living in an area of Switzerland where French is the primary language. Living here, I've decided that I want and need to be able to communicate in it. I am in the process of learning French and hoping that I'll be able to hold a conversation in it before the year is out." |

| #2 According to FHM Readers | |
FHM, a European men's lifestyle magazine recently held its annual poll for he top 100 most beautiful women in the world. Though Jennifer Lopez recieved #1 honours, Shania was voted #2! Thats Quite an improvement, since she recieved much less votes lates year landing her somewhere around #50. |
| BMI/ASCAP Awards | |
Shania and Mutt both picked up awards recently from both BMI and ASCAP, but there's a twist. You would figure both would get awards because they both co-wrote the songs. Well Mutt got the ASCAP, and Shania didnt because she isnt "licensed by ASCAP owners". Shania got the BMI awards only because Mutt is an ASCAP writer... a little confusing but I hope you get it and I wrote it correctly. The songs for the ASCAP awards were: "From This Moment On", "That Don't Impress Me Much", and "You're Still The One". The songs that got BMI awards were: "From This Moment On," "You're Still the One," "Man! I Feel Like a Woman," "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "You've Got a Way." Both awards were in the "Most Performed" category. |
| Diamond Award Sold for $8050 | |
One of Shania's Diamond awards was auctioned off on Bargoon's website recently. Shania donated a plaque commemorating one million copies sold of her debut album SHANIA TWAIN to the website to be auctioned for charity. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. Thats always good to see. |
| Blockbuster award | |
Shania won for Favourite Female Country Artist award at the 2000 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards recently. The awards will be televised June 20th on FOX. Congrats Shania! Thanks Carrie. |
| Shania ACM Entertainer of The Year | |
Shania won Entertainer of the year at the 2000 ACM awards! Dolly Parton announced it and said "Maybe I can take it to her & I'll be able to meet her". Congradulations Shania. |
| Shania One of 50 Most Beautifull! | |
Shania made this years list for People magazine's 50 Most BEautifull People in The World 2000. This is actually a bit of a surprise as she's been snubbed all the previous years. The issue is on sale now {Julia Roberts on the cover} and has what looks to be a new pic and small article all on one page. |
| More Mainstream | |
Shania collected even more mainstream attention on Fox's game show "Greed" recently, when a terminator question asked something along the lines of: "What artist is the Best Selling Female Artist in Recorded Music History with an album titled Come On Over?" Thanx Carrie. |
| Oops, She did it Again? | |
Shania has been working with pop artist Britney Spears on her new album, and co-wrote the song "How Dare You". It is also reported that she worked on Britney's catchy new single off the album "Oops, I did it Again". I havnt read the credits personally because I dont have the CD. Also, Mutt has been working with talented Irish group The Corrs on their new album, in addition to Britney's. |
| Ivor Novello Awards | |
Shania has been nominated for some prestigious awards given by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. Basically Shania is eligable because of being married to Mutt. Thats how it was simply expalined to me. Shania is nominated for: "Best Selling UK Single", "Most Performed Work" and "International Hit of the Year" for "That Don't Impress Me Much"; and "Best Song Musically and Lyrically" for "You're Still The One". |
| Crossover Pioneer? | |
Maybe, but Shania has certainly helped other country acts with crossover sucess. In a recent interview at Launch.com, the lead singer of country band Lonestar, Richie McDonald, thanked Shania by saying said that if it
hadn't been for artists like Shania, Lonestar wouldn't be having the crossover success that they're having now with Amazed. |
| 6 Million in Europe | |
Title basically says it all, Shania's album sales in Europe have reached 6 million! Awesome, congradulations Shania! |
| Faith AND Shania? | |
Faith Hill was interviewed recently and commented on who she would most like to do a duet with. Obviously her favourite is husband Tim McGraw, but she also mentioned that there were 3 other stars she would consider recording with: her first choice was Martina McBride, and she also mentioned Mariah Carey, and Shania! Man, now that would be a video that would sure stop channel flippers! Shania and Faith, I would love to see that happen. 2 incredibly talented women. |
| TNN/CW 2000 Awards | |
Shania has recieved 2 Nominations: Entertainer of the Year & Female Vocalist of the Year for the 2000 TNN/Country Weekly awards. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw again got like 435... er wait, more like 8 and 5 respectively, but a whole lot regardless. I think I heard they were just gonna rename them the Tim and Faith awards... : ) |
| 17 Million! | |
Recently Shania's "Come On Over" album was RIAA certified for 17 million sales!! Worldwide is has sold around 26 million! Amazing, congrats Shania. That makes it the best selling country album of all time and also the best selling album by a female artist. COO is also tied with The Bodyguard soundtrack as the fifth best selling CD of all time following The Eagles, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac. That's some amazing talent to be among. |
| Shania, Britney and Mutt? | |
Apparently Shania is working on pop sensation Britney Spears' new album. She is writing alongside writing giants Max Martin and Diane Warren for the new album. I have heard Mutt may be producing it, but cant clarify that. Thanx Carrie! |
| Who wrote that? | |
Well I wasnt really gonna bother mentioning this, but the National Enquirer has an article on Shania. Not sure if its still on newsstands. Supposedly according to them she's joined some non-sex cult. Weird article, full of trash in my opinion. The only reason I mention it is that there are pics of Shania & Mutt not published before, and of them during last christmas. That would be the only reason for the hardcore fan to buy it. Thanx to Carrie for pointing out the little bit of worth in the issue : ) |
| Shania in Forbes Top 100 | |
Shania is ranked #12 on this years Forbes Magazine Celebrity 100 issue, where the top 100
celebrities are ranked based on their earnings, influence and popularity. The 100 are chosen and ranked according to their income and the media buzz they generate. The income figure is what the celebrity earned last year; the buzz factor--a blend of their prominence on the web, on magazine covers, on radio and television, and in newspapers--is, in a way, a measure of
future earning power. In terms of money, Shania's ranked #16, earning $48 million, with 128,077 web hits; 9,096 press clips; 2 magazine covers and 42 TV and radio hits. As for web hits, no idea how that is calculated exactly, but that is very low considering big Shania sites can get 2000 unique visitors/day! Thats would make my guess closer to about 730,000 per popular Shania site. Easily she gets 2 million web hits/year in my opinion. Probably more.

| Shania Promises "Frank" New Album | |
Shania recently made a few comments regarding her upcoming album: "I think I've gotten a better idea now of the extremes in life and I will be able to be even more frank than ever in the song writing for the next album. I really feel like I've lived a lot of extremes lately". Should be an interesting album to listen to, COO was lyrically better according to most opinions than TWIM, and if this new album is even more uninhibited, it should be great. Plus the magic that shania and Mutt have when creating music, I cant wait. Thanx for the info Carrie. |
| Shania an MP3 favourite | |
Musicmaker.com has releases its most downloaded MP3 list of the year. Shania earned top spot with around 56,000 downloads! This was the "Eilleen Shania Twain - Beginnings" MP3's they offered. Shania seems to be popular in any format over the net. MP3's all over the place, MPG videos posted on newsgroups, guitar tabs requested alot. Shania is popular period! |
| Big Money Maker | |
According to the L.A. Times, Shania is a big money maker. She ranked #2 {behind the Backstreet Boys} in their "Top money makers in music for 1999" list at $119 million! Also, Shania's tour grossed big numbers. The 2nd hlaf grossed around $36.5 million, bringing the 2 year total to round $63.6 million! That's an average of $571,410 per venue. Ugh imagine paying taxes on those numbers! |
| She Said, She Said | |
Well Reba's all over the place, and talking about Shania. Country Weekly ran a story about her and they asked her about what she felt about Shania. Reba says some great things, including: "I'm very disappointed in my business for not supporting her in all the things she does for country music. We need her very badly." Also, Dolly Parton reportedly sent a telegram to Shania after she had heard about what Shania said at the CMA awards. Dolly had to leave early. The telegram congradulated Shania for the win. She also mentions she would like to meet Shania, and hinted at even writing or singing with Shania. Obviously this is far from concrete, but its the thought that counts. Thanks Carrie and Jayne. |
| 2 years old, owned by 14 million! | |
2 years ago, on November 4th '97, "Come On Over" was released. Today its 2 years old and has just been certified at 14x Platinum by Billboard! This puts Shania's "COO" in 2nd place alone {was tied at 13 with Whitney Houston}, and is closing in on Alanis' 16 million seller "Jagged Little Pill" as the highest selling solo female artist record in history. Thanx for catching that first Carrie! |
| Shania in 2000 | |
What will Shania be doing in 2000? Well she was offered and thinking about joining George Strait's concert festival for about 7 weeks, though that will cut into time for making her new CD's, so she's not sure. The christmas album will be out for next year, containing classic standards AND origional material! The new CD, she's gonna try to get out before the christmas album. Her next major main tour, after this November mini-tour, wont be until about summer of 2001. Argh, sounds like too long to wait for us fans, but after these amazing 4-5 years, Shania of course deserves a rest. |
| Party In The Park PPV | |
Back on september 25th, the Party In The Park concert that Shania was involved with aired on Pay Per View. Other artists included; Ricky Martin, Geri Halliwell, Eurythmics, and Boyzone. The concert helped raise funds for The Prince's Trust. Shania went on 2nd last and performed "Man! I Feel Like A Woman", "You're Still The One", "You've Got A Way", and finally "That Don't Impres Me Much". Unfortunately her performance was minorly hampered by what seemed to be sound problems with her earpeice. In the first few songs you could see her making gestures up to the soundbooth as inconspicuously as she could, but it was still obvious. She was holding her earpiece to her ear quite a bit, possibly (Im assuming) it wasnt loud enough. Finally during the end of YGAW, you can see her reaching behind, at the audio pack hung on her back/waist, and after that everything seemed fine. Apparently she found the volume switch : ) An interesting note... during "You're Still The One", the very last verse, I'm possitive she forgot the words, and ended up jumbling them together for a totally incomprehensible sentance. "I'm so glad we made it..." turned into "? ?? ? made it..." It was quite funny, she's human!! I will post a mini-mpg to see what Im talking about. As for camera work for the whole thing, It didnt Impress Me Much... so to say : ) Yes, cool, there were like 100-150 thousand people there {huge concerts thrown over there}, and its cool to see them, but losing 30% of the performance because of it? They advertised "15 cameras" in the add, and most of the time they used the wrong ones. All the "moves" Shania does during her TDIMM performance, were while the camera panned away. It was great to see her and the band perform again. Eventually I'll put up the mpgs. |
| 2000 Calender Available | |
I just got Shania's new year 2000 16 month calendar. It has new pics, most from the most recent photo shoots, one from "Shania Twain's Winter Break", liver performance pics, behind the scenes pics form the TDIMM video shoot. Great calendar, I found it at Walmart. Should be widely available now. |
| "Made In Canada" | |
A three picture set of Shania Twain will be included in Bryan Adam's latest
photography project "Made in Canada". This collection of important and celebrity Canadian women will be out this
week. Other Canadian women included are: Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Margaret Atwood, Neve Campbell, Celine Dion, Monika Schnarre and Silken Laumann. Proceeds go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The book was debuted in Toronto at Ryerson Polytechnic University's School of Image Arts. Chapters.ca has a page up about it and still says it isnt available yet. Check here to see when they get it. |
| CMA Celebration | |
So what would you do after recieving "Entertainer of the Year" and "International Artist of the Year"? Well according to her label, Shania took a limo from the labels after-party, and headed out for donuts! When Shania was recording "Come On Over", Krispy Kreme donuts were brought in, and she loved them. Afterwards, she headed out to at a local club with Ty Herndon and members of the pop group 'N Sync to dance the night away. See, I wouldnt have that type of luck to be there when she walks in.... I just know it : ) Of course I wont say anything about Shania forgetting the famous Canadian "Tim Horton's" donuts.... and don't we spell it "Doughnuts" or something here in Canada? Ugh, been too long since I was in High School. Guess she'll have to wait until she comes back again to have them, and Dill Pickle chips, Glosette Raisins, Canadian butter.... how does she survive away? : ) We have a few similar addictions. |
| · "Hot" in Fitness | |
Shania was included in Men's Fitness Magazine's "10 Hottest Woman". Other celebs included; Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lopez, Carmen Electra and Jennifer Aniston. Not bad company to be compared with. |
| · Surprising CMA's-results and tidbits | |
Wow, Shania was named "Entertainer Of The Year" at the CMA's on Wednesday night. This was her very first CMA award ever. Also surprising was that Shania and Faith both lost out the "Female Artist" award to Martina Mcbride. Shania performed "Come On Over" as expected, wearing a very pink outfit : ) Pink overcoat, pink cowboy hat, pink boots, pink gloves, pink shorts and pink crop-top. Same kinda overcoat as in the MIFLAW video, and she undoes it near the end of the song as well. Right after the song, Vince Gill presented Shania with the "CMA International Artist Achievement Award" for spreading country music internationally. After a fan yelled "We Love You Shania", Vince replied "Hold it down Im hosting the show... it's tough enough to look at this woman this beautifull, read this, and concentrate, without you screaming" : ) Reba McEntire presented the "Entertainer of the Year" award, and gave a little wave in Shania's direction right after she was announced as nominee. When she opened the envelope to announce the name, she smiled and put her head back, almost looking to be holding back tears and then called Shania up. Reba looked very happy for Shania. Shania accepted and thanked in tears, saying it was an honour to be there with so many talented people and to be presented the awards by "one of the most fabulous entertainers of our time, Reba McEntire". Shania also commented on Conway Twitty and Dolly Parton, how she been inspired by them, especially Dolly, who she said couldn't leave the building until she met her. Dolly was one of the biggest inspirations in Shania musical life. You may have remembered the story of Shania {early in her career} being on the same plane as Dolly, and too scared to say hi, and hadnt met her since . Also, When Jo Dee Messina won the Horizon awards, Shania was seen standing clapping for Jo Dee just like at the ACMA's. Shania is a big fan of Jo Dee's, and they both are friends with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Wow imagine that foursome working together... that would be amazing. Congradulations Shania, finally the CMA's gave you the credit you deserve and finally recognised you! Vidcaps and video will be up as soon as I can. |
| · People With Bad Eyesight | |
"People" magazine apparently has a bad case of bad eyesight. In there 10 best issue just recently, they named Shania as one of the 10 worst dressed of the year?? Not sure who contibuted to that part of the magazine, but they need an eye examination. They even put down Shania's stunning white gown she wore to the Grammy's! That dress has to be one of the most beautifull I've seen in a long time. I havnt yet seen the issue, but apparently the words written were very unkind about her fashion. Also, People still hasnt included Shania in they're 50 most beautifull issue any of the years. I wont put Shania's looks ahead of her talent or personality, but um... hello people. : ) |
